The Port of Rijeka Authority made a decision to grant a concession to the consortium of APM Terminals and ENNA Logic, i.e. to their newly incorporated company, with which a concession agreement for the development and economic use of Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal in Rijeka was signed. The concession period is 50 years.
The construction of a new container terminal at the Zagreb Deep Sea terminal at the Port of Rijeka is the most important and largest project within the Project of reconstruction of the Rijeka traffic route, the so-called Rijeka Gateway project (RGP I and II) launched by the Government in 2003, in cooperation with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The project is also one of the largest infrastructure projects currently under construction in Croatia.
The construction of a new container terminal is being realized through two main phases. The first includes the construction of a 400-meter coast, or coastal wall, and it was completed in May 2019. Plan of the second phase is to build an extension of 280 meters of the coastal wall, to build the necessary infrastructure and fully equip it.
